"I am not really sure where to begin with my praise for Sophie B. Hawkins after seeing her commanding performance as Janis Joplin in Gig Gaston's new musical "Room 105 - The Highs and Lows" which ended its 4-month run tonight at the Macha Theatre in West Hollywood. I will start by saying that Hawkins is not playing Janis Joplin - she IS Janis from the moment she literally crawls onto the stage and belts out her first number."

EDGE MAGAZINE

"Bringing renewed verve to her [Joplin's] legacy and spirit. The brilliant and heartfelt performance by Sophie B. Hawkins... Perhaps even more impressive was the sensitivity with which Hawkins embodied Joplin. Impressively written and directed by Gigi Gaston"

LA SPLASH

If you're in L.A., this is an absolute must-see. There you have it; that's all you need to know but read on if you like. If you love Janis Joplin and real rock and roll, this is a must-see. If you love American 20th century history or gender politics or simply a unique evening out, this is a must-see.

What's additionally remarkable about Room 105 is that-after all these years and all our media savvy-it succeeds in enlightening us about things we did not know. About Janis, about ourselves and about the hell of celebrity. (A good thing to note for L.A. habitues.)

Kudos to Writer/Director Gigi Gaston for going deep with her material.

CINESNATCH"

When Hawkins starts singing, she sings the shit out of those songs. And, even with Joplin's unmistakably, distinctive voice, Hawkins' heart colors each note and vocal gymnastic. She really outdoes herself here.
